What's 200 metres?
β¦.Yes, yes, 200 x 100cm (I wasn't being literal! ) π
When I saw the invitation to nominate people as Commonwealth Games π baton bearers I quickly β nominated 3 - simply 100 words each about their contribution to their community.
.....Then it felt great - UNTIL my unhelpful internal voice piped up: βWhat if they were uncomfortable being nominated or with 200mπ?!β
WHO DO YOU APPRECIATE?
Appreciating others is uplifting - quite the opposite of most daily news π!
Do you ask yourself βHow do I show my team my appreciation?β
AND DO YOU FEEL APPRECIATED?
We donβt need a nomination, but recognition can have the most amazing impact. We can all give it ....AND often then receiving a reciprocated gesture π.
Gestures ....but what when giving them isnβt obvious, easy - or an unhelpful internal voice pipes up? π
Like habit-forming, it's little and often...
HERE ARE 5 SIMPLE WAYS:
π Pointing out their strengths and planting seeds π± of how to harness them
π Broadcasting their success wider than the immediate team, specifying their role
π Offering a starβ performer external coaching/learning to overcome fears/hurdles
π Getting them to present π» a recent project, process or learning experience to the team
π Takeaway coffee with βthank you for / well done on...β written β on the side
OR... even easier, get me to do it for you β just message π© me and I'll send something by post!
AND IT BOOMERANGS β giving can easily prompt getting some back!
It doesnβt take 200 metres to recognise going the extra mile β but it ALWAYS means far more than numbers! π₯
