in difficult conversations we don’t like surprises
BIG SURPRISES AREN’T MY THING FOR VALENTINE’S;
Pizza and fizz suits me. And in difficult conversations we don’t like surprises either and being heartfelt can stop it feeling heated or stone cold.
Here are some heartfelt principles we repeatedly cover when talking difficult conversations:
Being honest prevents it getting messy. The delivery keeps it clean.
Words don’t win them over. Intent does.
The person isn’t THE problem.
Uncomfortable is OK. It’s where things turn around.
Even if it’s difficult, never risk their dignity.
Being too careful builds walls. Being clear breaks walls down.
Finger-pointing is a stop sign. Curious and kind are green lights.
Feeling safe is needed to speak up.
It’s not about getting romantic or red in the face, it’s being human.
Happy red and pink weekend!
